Creating a Home Gym in a Small Space

February 19th, 2009  |  Published in News

Regardless of whether you belong to a gym or not, having a home gym is always convenient for times when you just can’t make it to the gym, you are too lazy to drive there, or if you don’t want a gym membership.

The common misconception is that you need a large amount of space to have a home gym. While a large space is ideal, if you don’t have the square footage to spare, you can still use what you have to create a decent workout space.

My place is fairly small. When I choose to workout at home, I have everything I need using the space in my living room:

What is pictured above is an elastic exercise band, 5 lb weights, 15 lb weights, a stability ball, and foam roller.

Those items alone allow me to get a full-body workout whenever I want. Now if I had the extra space, like another room to actually build a home gym, here are two home gym machines I would consider just from personal experience and research I have done.

Home gyms for consideration

Total Gym 1100 - These are actually really cool because of their size and what you can do with them. My parents have one and you can get a good workout just using your bodyweight.

Bowflex PR3000 Home Gym - I like the size of this machine, the price seems reasonable, and overall, the reviews were positive.

Do you workout in a small space? What do you include in your home gym?

Donations for Jump Rope For Heart

jumpforheart

This is a special guest post from my little cousin Ekelani who is jumping rope for the American Heart Association’s fight against heart disease and stroke.

Hello! Did you know Jump Rope For Heart has been around for 30 years? I am so excited to be a part of this special celebration at my school. I am jumping rope and raising money to help the American Heart Association fight heart disease and stroke in Jump Rope For Heart. Can you please help me by making a donation that will help save lives?

The American Heart Association’s online fundraising website has a minimum donation amount of $25.00. If you want to donate less, that’s ok. You can just send the check right to me and I’ll make sure the American Heart Association gets it.

Benjamin has survived two open-heart surgeries and is an active volunteer for the American Heart Association. Benjamin has been participating in events, raising awareness and raising funds since he was 2 years old. See a video interview with Benjamin.

Thanks for your support and helping me save lives!
